Students learn best when teachers are passionate and clear in their expectations.
When learning is structured as problem-solving, students have the opportunity to grapple with challenging content and develop their critical thinking skills.
UAG students will have opportunities to be become creators rather than just consumers of technology.
The best education is offered through partnering with organizations that provide meaningful connections to the world of work.

ABOUT US
The Urban Assembly Gateway School for Technology opened its doors in the Fall of 2011 to the graduating class of 2015. These first students are founding members, pioneers in a school community committed to their success. Our students will be prepared as creative and analytical producers of technology with an authoritative understanding of their role and influence in the digital age. Graduates will be innovative thinkers and technicians, able to use and apply cutting edge technology in a variety of fields.
We are proud to be joined by our Partners in advancing the goals of our school: The Hospital for Special Surgery, Channel 13/WNET, Brooklyn Experimental Media Center (Poly/NYU), the Educational Video Center, and Iridescent Learning.
Technology education not only opens doors to career opportunities, but leverages students' natural desire to explore their world, think creatively and solve complex problems. Students will graduate from high school both college- and career-ready, prepared in one or more of the following career pathways:
The Urban Assembly
We are a member of the Urban Assembly Family of Schools. The Urban Assembly is a non-profit organization that has created and manages a community of small New York City public schools dedicated to preparing students for college via exceptional instructional support, college planning offices and professional partnerships.

Authors include Chinua Achebe, Luisa Valenzuela, Amy Tan, Edgar Allen Poe, Jodi Picoult, Robert Frost, Claude McKay, Walt Whitman, William Shakespeare, Edith Hamilton, Toni Morrison, Junot Diaz and other world renowned writers.
Our students complete an intensive double period in Global Studies to prepare for their Regents class during their Sophomore Year, and then complete American History, Economics, and Participation in Government during their Junior and Senior years.
Our students can select Integrated Algebra or Geometry during their 9th Grade year depending on their previous coursework. In 10th Grade, students either finish an Algebra sequence, take Geometry, or move on to a Trigonometry course. Later, options include Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus, and each year will feature interdisciplinary projects with Science and Technology classes.
Our students select from Earth Science or Living Environment options during their 9th Grade year depending on their previous coursework. In 10th Grade, students either take the alternate Regents class they have not yet taken, or Advanced Chemistry. Beyond Chemistry, options include Physics and AP coursework. In addition to labs, students participate in interdisciplinary projects with Math and Technology classes each year.
Our students complete a Design and Technology Foundations Course during their first year as part of the Internet and Computing Core Curriclulum (IC3), and then choose one of three Technology Pathways for their Sophomore to Senior Years: Digital Design and Animation, Data Management/Health IT, and Information Technology & Systems.

A Rotating Schedule at UAG
Curriculum
Our curriculum is centered on the importance of teaching students HOW to learn through the habits of mind that have been found to be necessary for college and career success.
Our teachers use technology to engage students and differentiate coursework in ways that create an environment where students learn to stretch themselves individually and in groups in a project-based curriculum with an emphasis on mastery rather than simply completion.
Highlights include:
DIGITAL DESIGN AND ANIMATION
Throughout the Graphic Design course at UA-Gateway, students will learn the process and art of combining text and graphics to communicate an effective message through the design of logos, graphics, brochures, newsletters, posters, labels, signs and other types of visual communication. Participants will develop skills in storyboarding, character development, 3D modeling, level design and texture mapping, and creating special effects for the electronic gaming, broadcast and film industries. Students will also receive extensive training in design, typography, composition, digital paint, and illustration techniques. Successful completion of this course affords students the opportunity to complete Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) certification.
Course Sequence:
Year 1:
Semester 1 - Introduction to Graphic Design Concepts
Semester 2 - Design and Layout Fundamentals
Year 2:
Semester 1 - Designing for Print and Web
Semester 2 - Graphic Production
Year 3:

Semester 2 – 3D Modeling and Game Design
SOFTWARE ENG & PROGRAMMING
The Software Engineering and Programming pathway offered at UA Gateway prepares its candidates for IT careers in large scale systems and software engineering with a solid foundation in programming. Students who enroll in the SEP program will have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery in both programming languages and development of software systems that are robust and secure. The curriculum provides an opportunity for students to explore computer science in a range of applications, including computer programming, web design, e-textiles, and robotics, as well as digital fabrication, 3-D printing and animation. It also assures potential employers that the candidate has the skills necessary to create software systems that are functional and secure. Students are recognized as having the skills needed to use the latest computer and Internet technology to improve the quality of software systems and the efficiency of operations.
Course Sequence (DRAFT):
Year 1:
Semester 1 - Fundamentals of Computer Science 1
Semester 2 – Fundamentals of Computer Science 2
Year 2:
Semester 1 - Intro to Programming Languages 1
Semester 2 – Intro to Programming Languages 2
